FAQ

Materials & Craft

What makes Nu Senses cashmere different?

Nu Senses knitwear is crafted from carefully selected cashmere yarns sourced from globally respected spinning mills. These suppliers also produce yarns used by leading luxury houses.

Our focus is on fiber quality, fine gauge knitting, and material integrity, rather than seasonal volume.

Many of our garments are knitted using 18-gauge precision knitting, which creates a lightweight fabric that is breathable, smooth against the skin, and suitable for everyday wear.

What is 18-gauge knitwear?

Gauge refers to the number of knitting needles used per inch of fabric. The higher the gauge, the finer and denser the knit structure.

18-gauge knitwear is considered a fine knit and is often used for premium lightweight sweaters and layering pieces.

Compared with lower gauges, 18-gauge knitwear offers:

  • lighter weight
  • smoother surface texture
  • improved breathability
  • refined silhouette and drape

This construction allows cashmere to feel light yet warm, rather than thick or bulky.

What is baby cashmere?

Baby cashmere refers to the extremely fine undercoat fibers collected from young cashmere goats during their first year.

These fibers are thinner, softer, and rarer than standard cashmere fibers.

Because of their exceptional softness, baby cashmere is often used in garments intended for very sensitive skin, including baby knitwear and luxury scarves.

At Nu Senses, we follow a simple principle: If a garment cannot comfortably touch the most sensitive skin, it has no meaning.

Is cashmere suitable for warm climates?

Yes. High-quality cashmere is naturally breathable and thermoregulating.

Fine-gauge knit structures such as 18-gauge allow the fiber to regulate temperature effectively. This means cashmere can feel comfortable not only in colder climates but also in air-conditioned environments or transitional weather.

How often should cashmere be washed?

Cashmere does not need frequent washing.

In many cases, simply airing the garment overnight in a well-ventilated space will refresh the fibers.

Washing is typically only necessary after several wears or if the garment becomes visibly soiled.

Can cashmere be machine washed?

Some washing machines offer wool or delicate cycles that may be suitable for cashmere.

However, for fine-gauge knitwear, hand washing in cold water with a mild wool detergent is generally the safest method to maintain the garment’s softness and structure.

Why does cashmere pill?

Pilling is a natural characteristic of high-quality cashmere, especially during the first few wears.

It occurs when loose fibers rise to the surface due to friction. This is normal for natural fibers and does not indicate poor quality.

Pills can easily be removed using a cashmere comb or fabric shaver. Over time, pilling will gradually decrease as excess fibers shed.

How should cashmere be stored?

Cashmere garments should be:

  • folded rather than hung
  • stored in a cool, dry place
  • kept in breathable cotton storage bags if stored long-term

Natural repellents such as cedar wood or lavender can help protect against moths.
