Caring for Your Cashmere

Cashmere is one of the finest natural fibers in the world, valued for its softness, warmth, and breathability. With proper care, high-quality cashmere can last for many years and often becomes even softer over time.

At nu senses, our knitwear is produced using 18-gauge precision knitting and carefully selected yarns sourced from globally respected mills. The fine gauge structure creates a lightweight fabric that is breathable, smooth against the skin, and suitable for everyday wear across different climates.

Because fine cashmere fibers are naturally delicate, gentle care will help preserve the garment’s structure, softness, and longevity.

The following recommendations will help you keep your nu senses knitwear in its best condition.

Our Cashmere Standard

Material integrity is the foundation of our craft.

Nu Senses works with carefully selected cashmere yarns sourced from internationally recognized spinning mills, including suppliers used by leading luxury houses. These yarns are chosen for their fiber length, purity, and softness.

Many of our garments are knitted in 18-gauge, a fine knitting structure that creates:

  • lightweight insulation
  • breathable warmth
  • a smooth and refined surface
  • improved durability compared with looser knits

For garments intended for the most sensitive skin, we also develop pieces using baby-grade cashmere fibers, known for their exceptional softness and comfort.

Our philosophy is simple: If a garment cannot comfortably touch the most sensitive skin, it has no meaning.

This same standard guides both our main collection and our baby cashmere pieces.

Safety & Material Transparency

Natural fiber should always respect the skin that wears it.

For this reason, Nu Senses follows strict material safety standards. Our baby garments are produced according to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I, the highest level of certification for textile safety, designed specifically for babies and young children.

We believe transparency is essential. Whenever applicable, we provide clear information regarding:

  • fiber composition
  • care instructions
  • relevant certification standards

Washing

Cashmere does not require frequent washing. In many cases, simply airing the garment overnight in a well-ventilated space is enough to refresh the fibers.

When washing is necessary:

  • Hand wash in cold water
  • Use a mild detergent designed for wool or cashmere
  • Gently press the garment in water without rubbing
  • Rinse thoroughly with cold water

Avoid twisting or wringing the fabric, as this may damage delicate fibers.

While some washing machines offer wool or delicate cycles, hand washing remains the safest method for fine-gauge cashmere knitwear.

Drying

After washing:

  • Gently press out excess water using a clean towel
  • Do not wring the garment
  • Lay the garment flat on a towel to air dry
  • Carefully reshape the knit while it is still damp

Cashmere should never be hung to dry, as the weight of water may stretch the knit structure and alter the garment’s shape.

Avoid tumble drying.

Storage

Cashmere should be stored carefully when not in use.

We recommend:

  • Folding garments instead of hanging them
  • Storing them in a cool, dry place
  • Using breathable cotton or fabric storage bags

Natural repellents such as cedar wood or lavender can help protect garments from moths during long-term storage.

Pilling

Pilling is a natural characteristic of high-quality cashmere, especially during the first few wears. It occurs when loose fibers rise to the surface due to friction.

This does not indicate poor quality and is common in natural fiber garments.

To remove pills:

  • Use a cashmere comb or fabric shaver
  • Gently brush in one direction

Over time, as excess fibers naturally shed, pilling will gradually decrease.

Professional Care

For occasional deep cleaning or seasonal storage preparation, professional dry cleaning suitable for cashmere garments may also be used.
